Marble threshold bathroom installation

For the best effect, designers suggest choosing a threshold that blends with one or both of the materials in each room. This marble material was not commonly found at flooring material stores in the past. Contractors had easier access to this finding this material than did the individual person looking in the home improvement stores did. Today marble door threshold material is readily available for the do-it-yourselfers. For an odd-size doorway you can have one custom cut.

A variety of colors are available from white to grey, black, cream and solid. Marble can be added to enhance a contemporary to traditional look Marble will often bring in an Italian or old Roman look to a room. You will also need a trowel, a utility knife and a straight edge.

If the threshold does not fit the opening, you will need a tile cutter. Tile cutters are available to rent, so you can custom cut the threshold to fit. The photos that follow show each step of the process I followed, and this took less than an hour for sure. All debris was removed from the concrete slab and the carpets were trimmed gently where frayed material was hanging loosely.

In order to test the saddle for fit, I found it necessary to partially remove the inner trim pieces on the bottom inside of the door jamb as shown below. Did this very carefully with a sharp razor knife and a flat screwdriver…. Once I was positive that all fit beautifully, I applied some of the subfloor Liquid Nails as shown — making sure not to overdo it. Once the saddle was sitting nicely in place, it was time to restore the door jamb, adding some of that Phenoseal caulk to fill the nicely — and then I touched up the door jamb in total with the matching touch-up paint….

I ended up using some of the carpet trimmings to make everything look a little nicer in one small area… I guess sort-of like hair plugs on a receding hairline? But I never had to use anything other than the marble for the threshold — the other extra wood trim pieces I bought were happily taken back by the hardware store. So, again — a quick and genuinely fun little effort, with a really nice aesthetic impact in the end. Everything looks clean, crisp and properly finished. Very close to the asking price as well.

That looks great. A full marble, Roman style bathroom is a dream of luxury and opulence for many, but it is not practical to install or maintain. For this reason, marble veneers are often used on tubs and tile. For those that want the luxury of a marble bathroom, however, a marble threshold can bring a touch of real elegance to a bathroom, without sacrificing cost efficiency, and practicality.

A marble threshold is a small touch that will be instantly visible in a renovated bathroom, especially if the color is striking. Real marble will be both noticeable, and will also provide a tactile experience. In a master bath, it's expected that users will be barefoot a majority of the time. This means that the cool sensation of a genuine marble threshold will be something that homeowners can experience every time they enter the room.

With matching marble tile, or sinks, a marble threshold can also increase the value of a home.
