As a neurologist, she specializes in epilepsy in pregnancy, epilepsy in women of childbearing age, and epilepsy secondary to neuro-oncological disease, and also cares for seizures in critical illness. The two sisters grew up a few miles up the road from Augusta, in Harlem, Georgia. Their father was a factory worker, and their mother had planned to become an educator, but left school to care for their ailing grandmother. Martin says SEEP gave her not just confidence but also connected her with like-minded students, physicians and professors, which was affirming.
